Actually Raymond Burr played many bad guys in films as well as Fred MacMurray which are too many to list here but ill name two notable films everyone should know, Raymond Burr co stared with James Stewart in "Rear Window" as the killer neighbor and Fred MacMurray stared with Barbara Stanwyck in "Double Indemnity".
Thanks for placing this old movie on RUclips. I was born in 1953 so part of my enjoyment is simply seeing actors I knew like Raymond Burr and Fred MacMurray when they were younger than I remember them. When Clair Trevor was part of the dancing girls and she was circling around Raymond Burr sitting I thought I was watching a skit by Lucille Ball.
I never thought much of Raymond Burr until I saw him outside of ironside and perry mason. His villains are awesome. He really makes you believe he is that guy so well. Even his small part in I love Trouble with Franchot Tone
ARGH!! That scene at the 48:48 mark when they push that 40' Buick 4-door convertible over the cliff ALWAYS makes me wince! That thing is a RARE CLASSIC by today's standards.

In fairness, the production was filmed in 1950.. A 1940 Buick was just a pre-war sled at the time. Nothing remarkable or noteworthy about it at the time.

It's my favorite Fred MacMurray movie!!! What a great one! If they could make at least half of such a good movie nowdays, I would pay 10 times the ticket price, to watch it in cinemas!!!!
So was Raymond Burr, who suffered as a boy alone on a remote Horse ranch trying to earn $ for his grandmother and mother (Burr's father deserted them). He was 12- the ranch hands were much bigger. See The Defense Rests on YT, a tribute to Burr, to see what an amazing kind man he was.

I really love Claire's reaction to the various things said about her- she simply MADE this movie! I also love Fred's Panama- it's a "Cuban style" with the wide brim & wide band. Can't hardly get one today for less'n $150.
The real sorrow is, there is no brave wise movie producer, who can choose to make such old fashion Noir movies. Not only people here on RUclips, I am sure, such movies can find a large niche. BTW, if you want to make, remember that it should be in B&W.
This movie has some pretty well known actors in it. Fred MacMurray from Double Indemnity and Absent Minded Professor. Raymond Burr from Perry Mason, Ironside, Rear Window, and the 1950s Godzilla: King Of The Monsters. Claire Trevor from Stagecoach and Key Largo.
Doesn't matter if was WAY before your time. Shldn't have any bearing on how & why U like something. Shows your open - minded. Plus, any film never seen is still a new film. Keep enjoying film noir. It's my FAV genre, too, & was good bit BEFORE my time as well.
1:14:40. Holy crap! Those shoes she got for Fred McMurray look about size 16! And... I don't care much for romance, or comedy, but the comedic denouement beginning at 1:17:10 makes it all worthwhile.
I first watched that movie when I bought a bunch of DVDs at a dollar store. I was surprised how entertaining a movie that was. You should mention it stars Fred McMurray, before he became know for "My Three Sons".

Raymond Burr almost always plays a seedy character who winds up killed or taking prisoner in all these B movies. Amazing, how he landed "Perry Mason" in the years that followed. However, this film, although a little lengthy was pretty good. Good story, good ending.(ls)
Lou Steinberg...Have you ever seen the video where we get to see a little bit of the auditions for the character of Perry Mason? The actor who wound up playing Lt. Tragg auditioned for the part and also the actor who played Paul Drake also auditioned for the part, and maybe some others but I can't remember any more. But then Raymond Burr auditioned and and that was that...!! I still love to watch the original Perry Mason from the late 50's and even as old as the series is, it is still so very much better than anything today. And the film is brand new looking & sounding and that makes it outstanding...!!
Lucky for me I DIDN'T read the description before watching the film, so I spent half the film before finding out which side MacMurray was really on. As for Claire Trevor, I mostly remember her for some NOT-NICE roles-- in "MURDER MY SWEET" and "HOW TO MURDER YOUR WIFE".

"You got mail" with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan was based on a very similar story line, but had not created the same charm as the original. Although I am a big fan of Raymond Burr, the youtube tag for this movie should say Fred MacMurray first at least. Having missed the opening stars listed, I thought Raymond Burr was the biggest name in the picture until I saw Fred Macmurray.step into the picture and then I realized about half way thru that Fred M was the star listed at the beginning of the film.

It's amazing. Everytime I turn on a film noir, I see Raymond Burr playing a bad guy. I like him more as Perry Mason.
I was expecting something dark, but this movie ended up resembling "It Happened One Night". I'm not disappointed though - pretty darn good film!
This a romcom at least as much as a crime drama. Well put together little film. I enjoyed it.

Raymond Burr was cast as the villain in Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window because he resembled David O. Selznick, the director's former boss.

Even as a “bad guy” McMurry comes across as extremely likable. Then again, I suppose that was the point. Burr, on the other hand . . . .
Raymond Burr was excellent at portraying characters who were the total opposite of who he was in real life.
RAYMOND BURR also worked in some westerns as a bad guy.
